PDF files

Portable Document Format is a proprietary file format invented by Adobe to address the need for cross-platform document presentation in a compact, versatile file format.

To read PDF files, you will need to install the free Adobe Reader which can be downloaded from Adobe. It is available for a variety of platforms, including:

Microsoft Windows
MacOS
Unix
OS/2
Palm OS
Pocket PC

If you wish to create PDF files, you will need to buy the full version of Acrobat. Universities can usually obtain it at a preferential rate: contact your own purchasing department.

It is also possible to create PDF files using a PostScript printer driver and GSview, a free PostScript viewer.
