SO&P: HadCM3 data and information

• Model Description :
  • Identifier:
    • HadCM3 (please always use this when referring to the model, to ensure consistent terminology).
  • Reference to the model:
    • Gordon C, Cooper C, Senior CA, Banks H, Gregory JM, Johns TC, Mitchell JFB and Wood RA (2000) The simulation of SST, sea ice extents and ocean heat transports in a version of the Hadley Centre coupled model without flux adjustments. Climate Dynamics 16, 147-168.

• Experiment description :
  • Control simulation:
    • 1000-year simulation with constant external forcing. The simulation is actually much longer than this, but 1000 years are available for use in SO&P.
    • Reference for the control simulation:
      • Collins M, Tett SFB and Cooper C (2001) The internal climate variability of HadCM3, a version of the Hadley Centre coupled climate model without flux adjustments. Climate Dynamics 17, 61-81.
  • Natural forcings simulation ("Natural forcings"):
    • 1492-1999 with prescribed changes in volcanic forcing, solar irradiance and orbital forcing, while anthropogenic forcing factors were fixed at estimated pre-industrial values. Only use the period 1500-1999, due to spin up trends before 1500.

  • The IPCC Data Distrubution Centre (DDC) provides a description of the HadCM3 grid definition and a land-sea mask.
  • Pre-computed time series for various regional or hemispheric or global averages are in plain text.
  • Full spatial fields of model output data are available in netCDF format.

  • Global and hemispheric time series, monthly fields and seasonal fields are now available for some variables. Click here for access.
