Read Me for the dataset CRU CL v1.1 1. Introduction Version 1.1 of CRU CL was introduced in April 2022. Its construction, and the reason for it, is described in 'Technical_note_CRU_CL_v1.1.pdf', which should be in the same directory as this file. 2. File format The ASCII text files follow the same format as CRU TS text files: in this case, there are twelve monthly grids, one after the other. Each grid has 360 rows and 720 columns: - The first row of every grid represents a row of gridcells centred on 89.75°S. - The last row of every grid represents a row of gridcells centred on 89.75°N. - The first column of every grid (and the file as a whole) represents a column of gridcells centred on 179.75°W. - The last column of every grid (and the file as a whole) represents a column of gridcells centred on 179.75°E. 3. Data format - Units The DTR and TMP units are stored as degrees Centigrade x10, so 12.1° would be 121 The PRE units are stored as mm x10, so 135.5mm would be 1355 The VAP units are stored as hPa x10, so 13.7hPa would be 137 The WET units are stored as days x100, so 14.8 days would be 1480 The CLD units are in % x10, so 72.5% would be 725 4. Notes The CLD climatology is giving cause for concern in some areas; this may be addressed by reverting to v1.0. As always, please adress any questions or comments to i.harris@uea.ac.uk.
